Westley Neal Prepares For Senior Season, Updates Recruitment

Westley Neal Prepares For Senior Season, Updates Recruitment

Matthew_Suero
Gulliver Prep hit the transfer market as hard as anyone this offseason and added a bunch of talented players. With all this new talent comes increased expectations. Rising senior and 3-star DT Westley Neal gave his take on the team heading into this upcoming season.

“We added a whole bunch of talent plus the talent we had. We just have to bring the team together and build that bond. We can be really good. We just have to put our mind to it.”

One of the biggest transfers that Gulliver was able to secure was 4-star 2020 DE Donell Harris. Having a player of that caliber next to him makes Neal even more excited for the season.

“That takes a lot of the stress off of me because I am always getting double and triple-teamed during the games. Him on the other side of me helps a lot.”

With some more help along the line, Neal is looking to capitalize and put up big numbers this season.

“About 20 plus sacks. 40 plus tackles for loss. I’m also trying to get a touchdown in.”

Neal specifically mentioned Indiana, Pitt, Rutgers, and Miami as schools recruiting him the hardest.

“I’m close with the Miami coaches. We talk here and there, about every other week. They tell me to come on an official.”

Neal last visited Miami for Paradise Camp in June and liked what he saw.

“It was good. I like the environment. I like how they have the former players teaching the defensive linemen. Teaching them techniques and stuff like that.”

Neal expects a much-improved team when Miami takes the field in 2019, but he is specifically excited to watch the defense play.

“I like how the defense is looking this year. They have a lot of young athletes. I like the attitude they have. They are not scared of anybody. I like how aggressive they are.”

Neal will likely take an official visit to Indiana, Pitt, Rutgers, and Miami before making a decision sometime near the February national signing day.

By waiting until February this young man is gambling big time that there will be a spot available for at Miami. But I love his gambling spirit of "Go Big10 or Go Home to Miami, regarding his recruitment.

If he has a huge year, he could play himself into that UM offer, if not Indiana and Rutgers would definitely take him late.

Go Canes

Hope he makes it into this class. I liked his junior highlights and think he has great natural but raw athleticism. Will learn a ton under Stroud and turn into a major talent (e.g., needs to stop tackling with his hands). We really need a Nose in every class. Not having anyone ready after Norton graduated early hurt us with run defense last year. Can't let that happen again.

I don't think the staff is really recruiting this kid. My guess is with the early indication that the 3 freshman DT's will be studs, we don't want to add him or another DT. We've already got Moise, Riggins, and most likely Roberts that will be DTs. That would leave us with Ford (unless he has a MONSTER year and leaves), Silvera, Miller, the 3 sophomore guys, and the 3 freshman. That is more than enough. Then, you load up on the 2021 elite guys.

for whatever reasoin i had him as a commit in my head already. He is the goods wouldnt mind him in this class. His body has to be redeveloped a bit...but he has Nesta-lite ability with get off etc.

It's good to hear he has worked on his body and conditioning...I like him over Riggins personally, I think it's all weather this kid can play more like Nesta style wise instead of dead over center only as a space eater. I don't mind Riggins either and like how he was moving up and down the lineup in recent highlights.

I agree with this Paranos...Kid wants to be a Cane and he has some balls to gamble like that. Also not the petty foolish pride that others have just bc not offered early. It's almost like he has told his smaller others "I'll know more in January, recruit me or don't"
