UM commit Ford excited about "D-Line brother" Johnson

One of the first commitments to Miami's 2017 recruiting class was south Florida product Jonathan Ford, a 6-5, 270- pound defensive lineman.

The Hurricanes coaching staff seems more than content to have a defensive tackle class led by Ford, which is something that he notices and appreciates.

"I'm so fired up about that coaching staff and everything at Miami because they actually believe in me," he said. "Even though I didn't get my fourth star (after spring), they were still recruiting me and on me hard. That's big for me."

As has been the biggest factor with nearly all of Miami's defensive line targets, the opportunity to work with Craig Kuligowski excites Ford.

"Coach Kool is a great coach. I know I'm going to learn a lot of things from him and I know for a fact that I will make the league playing under him," Ford said.

"I'll be a 3-technique. I'm going to get to the quarterback as soon as possible -- no sitting on the line or reading. I'll be interrupting the quarterback and getting into the backfield and celebrating like the old U."

The Dillard prospect shared his thoughts on Miami adding D.J. Johnson, a recruit that Ford met at Paradise Camp.

"Last night, I got another D-Line brother next to me in D.J. Johnson. He's big and athletic and it's great to see the D-Line class building and everything going well," said Ford.

"When Coach Kool introduced me to him, I thought he was already a player at Miami and I didn't realize he was still in high school. He's actually a little bigger than me, so it's exciting to know I'll have someone that size right next to me and he's very athletic. We are going to have great chemistry."

man the buzz around the program and all the excitement in recruiting and evaluations got me all fired up!!!

Man how does Ford not have 4 stars? I really hope a lot of our 3 star guys get the bump they deserve in the rankings. Especially Ford, Dingle, Edwards, Steed. Those are all 4 star players

Jon ford a beast ... He's vastly underrated. Can't wait until he gets here

Ford Dingle and Edwards might get a 4th star....Don't think Steed will....but it's irrelevant. As long as they can play

Seconded. I'm telling you, our class is so underrated. I'd make the case that Johnson and Donaldson should be 5 stars. It's a true "Miami" class with some legit savages.

I don't care where we finished ranked -- this is a solid class as is, with the opportunity to get even better if we can close with Minor, McFarland, Bandy, Carter, and one of Jeudy, Smith, or Harley.

We straight.

Ford is an army all American for Christs sake. Edwards should get his bump after a big season and playing for Aquinas always helps. Dingle been dominating camps

Hey Pete, surprised you didnt ask him what his boy Jordan Wright is smokin thinking he can get a big time D1 scholie playing bball! His lottery ticket is the football field! He good in basketball but as we all know..you gotta be great to get a big time school to offer you. Hope he changes his tune before its too late.

I remember going to a Dillard game last year and seeing that Dillard Dline absolutely look like animals. I was like, "Who the **** are these guys!" Found out later on it was Ford, Wright, Aaron Thompson and another D1 kid they got this year I believe. They were wrecking havoc! Really excited about Ford and hope he can change his boy JWrights mind.

Our DL is gonna be massive in a year or two. Tall, long kids who can get good weight while still being lean.

Kool is exactly who I thought he was. He might not be a slick salesman type recruiter, but he's the kind of guy that smart hungry kids want to play for because they know he'll get them paid huge. This is the first coach we've had in awhile where recruits at his position are constantly mentioning his coaching acumen as a reason for their interest.

Yeah he's the biggest name in college football as far as the coaching names on the dline goes . Only one in comparison is Ed Oregeron who is a better recruiter and a good coach. However kulogowski is a better overall coach than Oregeron and a solid recruiter

If you follow him on twitter, you'll see he's exactly the type of recruiter and person as his nickname: Kool. He's a way better coach than Orgeron bc he's been doing it with less, while Oregeron due to his recruiting acumen has always got the best toys to work with.

It's funny, we thought alot of these guys were good ol boys who wouldn't maybe fit in at S. Florida, but this guy genuinely seems to love it down here with his family. Hope he stays for a while.

As we win, each position coaches ability to recruit more highly regarded kids will go up. Coach like Kool is one you trust to make a kid excel even if he's regarded as a 3 star. We know we're not main stream college sports sweethearts and they (those that determine star values), are not going to do us any favors in rating our commits.

so glad we got coach kool man. truly a blessing.

Ford deserves a fourth star. It may be good that he didn't get it because he may be more motivated.

I'm not a star ***** but I do believe stars matter. Recruits notice stars and so do networks broadcasting. I don't think it hurts us to not have as many highly rated guys because I trust Kool and richt more than any other coaches we've had in over ten years but it certainly wouldn't hurt to have more publicity and higher ratings because recruits look into that and talk about joining other Highly rated guys

With that said, a Miami 3 star is a high four star anywhere

Might help to give them more of a chip on their shoulder. The star rankings are fun for us and them individually, but in the end its more important how they play in college and hopefully also the pros. There are enough stories of great players mentioning years or decades later about how some ranking or draft position always bothered them and fueled them through their career. Hopefully we get a bunch of 5 star quality kids with 3 star rankings who play their entire career showing the ranking people how wrong they are.

Love the line about knowing for a fact he'll get to the league under Coach Kool's tutelage. That will continue to attract the DL we haven't been to get to come to UM for years. I'm looking forward to watching CT this year. I really hope he shuts his piano and gets football focused. Kool can turn him into a first rounder over the next 2yrs if hes focused. Ford and Johnson are gonna be fun to watch together.

Go Canes!

It depends on the recruiting site. Scout has had him as a 4-star since last year. He's also ranked about the #13 DT on that site...
