Tucker a late addition to Miami's class

Miami will add a late signee to their 2013 class on Monday, as American Heritage RB Walter Tucker (5’11”, 190) will sign to play both track and football.

“I’ve been talking about Miami for a long time and basically it’s a brotherhood. It’s like a big family. Coach Rumph told me it’s all about family when you’re coming to the U, it’s not just about yourself,” said Tucker.

Tucker had been decided on Clemson, but there was some disconnect between the Tigers’ side and Tucker.

“Basically they just wanted me to run track and I wanted to play both. I wanted to switch my scholarship to football and then walk-on to the track team, but Clemson wasn’t really offering that. Then I spoke with Al Golden and he told me I could run track as long as I continued my work on the football field.”

The two-sport athlete had some help from his coaches to get Miami’s attention.

“They reached out to me. Coach Rumph and my Coach Mario Perez also helped to push my name towards Miami.”
What role does he see himself playing at Miami?

“It doesn’t really matter to me, as long as I’m doing my job for whatever position I play.”

Tucker’s family is happy about the switch as well.

“They’re real happy. Basically they wanted whatever I wanted and whatever made me happy. They’ll have a party or whatever before I go of to college.”

If Tucker fits his self-proclaimed description, the ‘Canes might have gotten a steal.

“I describe myself with a big, physical person with a lot of speed. I’m a freight train.”

It’s no secret that Tucker has football on top of his priorities.

“Football has always been my passion, but I love track too because it helps me with my flexibility and my speed.”

**Tucker runs the 110 M hurdles, 300 M hurdles, and 4x100 relay.
**Tucker will enroll at Miami for the second summer session on June 25th

I could see him making contributions on special team and on defense. Don't see much as a running back. But, Welcome to the []_[]!

Peter - I hate to ask but does this mean somebody else did not make the 2013 list?

Thanks Pete. Anyone have any analysis on the kid?

Great athlete. It's funny because I was actually talking to two people at the camp on Sunday about him. They said if he got an opportunity at Clemson that he would make an impact...now he's a Cane.

How good is he? Is he worth losing a spot in the 2014 class?

His 2012 Mid Season highlights show he is a power runner, very nice pick up to add depth.

Go Cane

Every year we ask these same questions and then every year we end up 2 or 3 under the limit because every year we lose kids to attrition. I doubt one has anything to do with the other.

Haven't watched the clips yet, but if he is as athletic and aggressive as he sounds I'm glad we're getting him early. Corey Nelms and Tanard Davis bounced around the NFL for a while. If they had devoted themselves to football earlier, they could've helped the Canes.

If nothing else, Amy Deem must be fired up about her incoming hurdlers between Tucker and Burns.

I wanna see him run a kick back for a TD vs Clemson in the acc championship game

I don't see him as a RB based of his tape. Could be a nice safety with his speed and size.

Is he coming on a track or football scholarship?

the minute you step on the football field you count as a football scholarship. Rule in play so schools like Alabama couldnt stash players on track, wrestling, etc etc scholarships to get around the 85 limit
