Emptying the notebook from last week. Will have more in the days to come:

- I was told on Wednesday that the timetable for staff changes was ten days (by end of this week). This is my educated guess, but that tells me Mario wants to completely close the initial talent acquisition window before moving on to staff changes. As I've said for months, I expect significant changes including a new offensive coordinator and QB coach.

- One thing to keep in mind with the Transfer Portal- even with the best preparation, it is more unpredictable and haphazard than HS recruiting. Visits are often an opportunity for staffs to evaluate the players, and vice versa. Issues with credits transferring and the NCAA's new contact periods (which doesn't match with every school's enrollment calendar) have disrupted a couple recruitments. Miami has been aggressive in pursuing players but is being mindful not to settle for inferior talents. Remember, our two best Portal acquisitions last year (Akheem Mesidor and Darrell Jackson) committed in April. Miami will continue to pursue a big body DT in the Portal.

- Miami will continue to pursue a transfer RB. FAU's Larry McCammon was very interested in Miami but could not transfer certain credits, which led to his return to FAU.

- I expect Miami to be a factor for Alabama WR Tyler Harrell if his foot checks out. I will post an update on Gary Bryant once I get it.

- I don't think Miami is done at LB. They will pursue another transfer there if the right name presents itself.

- Iowa transfer Terry Roberts remains in the mix. If Miami takes him, don't be surprised if it's at safety.

- Miami fans are underrating Purdue transfer DT Branson Deen. His commitment came at a time when fans were expecting news on a big DT, a new OC or a WR name, so I get the distraction. But after watching him against Michigan and Penn State, this is a twitchy, high-motor player who made plays against big OL. He had 34 pressures last year against the best and biggest OLs in America. For comparison, Leonard Taylor had 25 against worse competition.

Happy to hear the update on the coaching change but my god, Mario has this so backwards. Get rid of the coach first so that the black cloud that is the Gattis offense isn't turning players off of us. There's still time with the second portal window but there have already been some impactful guys that we hurt ourselves with by having Gattis still aboard. Let's hope it all works out.

You are probalby right but saw a writeup where we got like 75% of our players last year after spring........there is lots of time still to get another guy in and there will be a second big wave of players. Who knows if there are contract things that make it better to wait a bit more. But agree in general the earlier the freaking better.

Thank you for pointing out Deen is/has been better than Taylor so far. A couple porters got upset when I pointed that out. Deen is a big pickup for this team!

Any news of defensive changes? I thought for sure steele would retire

In a very weird turn of events your posts are becoming more and more positive. I like this new @BeastMode that is not gloom and doom ALL The time. Respect.

Once again, what does firing gattass do if you have no replacement?

Either way you are selling recruits ion the future. Gattass hasn’t been involved in any recruiting so these kids know he is gone. Without a new OC being named it really doesn’t matter if Gattass is still hired or not. Nothing changes until the new guy is named.

Great stuff, D$!

Regarding LT - I like that kid and really glad he's still with us! Having said that... he's not a HS kid anymore. When he first arrived, everyone was projecting big things because of his "wiggle" and natural attributes. At this point, the truth is, he hasn't lived up to his billing as #1 DT in America.

Yes, you can say that he hasn't had the kind of training that he would've received at UGA/BAMA, but there comes a time when every man has to take responsibility for himself. I am rooting HARD for LT and want him to succeed more than any kid that he came in with, but he's gotta do things outside of what they prescribe for him in the program.

Assuming that he really does have the goods and all of those prognosticators aren't wrong, he needs to put in the extra time and truly treat this like a job... a really high paying 1%er type of job if he takes personal responsibility for his success. Hoping he does that this offseason and hoping it pays off.

Same goes for our entire WR room (minus Restrepo).

It’s all how your perceive my post. Some would me calling Taylor out as soon and gloom haha. Most times I’m just trolling cause I’m bored. Miami will be alright and win 8-9 games next year.

It's the trolling times😂

Also can we start discussing who we would like to be OC?

Not to mention, several other schools have landed offense-side (or defense-side) recruits while there was still plenty of coaching uncertainty.

I do not deny that Gattis has cost us some recruits. But most of the recruits know what is happening, even if they don't know the timing and replacement.

There will be more guys who jump in the portal in May. It's not like an older, more-experienced WR will be unable to pick up the new UM playbook just because he misses our spring practice.
