Good coaching doesn't mean no upside......

Matt Barkley played on a great HS team with a great coach, was privately coached by Steve Clarkson and he's had plenty of upside at USC

I've read concerns that Dewey might be near max because of the coaching he got in HS. Those in the know, does he have a lot of room to get better?

Imo he does got room to get better, I think playing at a small school he's having to adjust a lot. He has to catch up to the college speed of the game.

I hear ya. But what about mechanics? Is there more that he can work on that TD already hasn't? I only ask because this is what people in Texas were saying a year ago. That he was already coached up and might have plateaud...

Why are people already penciling in a kid who hasn't taken a single snap for UM as the starter when we have 2 brand new QB's who, by all accounts, will more than likely be the starter after Morris and Williams depart?

Its just incredible the cognitive dissonance on this board. This isn't Duke where getting a good player means he starts right away. There are tons of kids ahead of him already. He'll sit because he knows he'll need to put distance between himself and the others to get 2 yrs to play.

If we're going by all accounts, Crow and Dewey both have a lot to work on. Olsen is more talented than both of them anyways, if anyone is going to challenge him it would be Dewey.

Stating an opinion as fact is as pointless as debating who would have won had X have caught the ball in what game back in 1993. You A) don't really know that and talent evaluations are incredibly subjective anyway B) aren't a coach at a D1, D2, or D3 college to make that evaluation.

Then all you have to do is go look at their offer sheets compared to Dewey and Crow and I think that would prove that coaches see Olsen as a talented prospected compared to the other two.

What an awful post. Cant count on Olsen because hasnt taken a snap but Crow and Dewey can be counted on because they are grizzled veterans with years of experience.

Nice lecture, ace.

**** son, I thought you were just a gym monkey. Quit bringing the heat...
As far as Olsen, I trust the coaching staff. The kid is the goods, but I would never anoint any kid a starter as a freshman. It may happen, but dont expect it.

Excellent breakdown, the whole idea that he chose us when most would choose to go elsewhere is huge. Wisconsin is a much better program at the moment and plays in a better conference and Golden and Fisch were able to sell him on the future of the program. Hopefully this commitment will be what the program needs to get back on track.
the only reason he chose us is because his family has deep ties to golden

throw greg out of the equation

chris transferred from ND to UVA and played there while al was on the staff

when he was at temple........chris sr......who is a great HS coach.....was apart of a few of als camps there

and chris sr also sent alot of kids to play for bc.....uva and temple when al was on the staff at each school.......so they have a good and long standing relationship with each other

if he didnt wind up here......i would have been surprised

Great post, and point about him picking or choosing us. Had his pick of schools, but chose the one mired in mediocrity and facing potential sanctions. That is huge.

Anyway you slice this, its a tremendous pickup for us, and hopefully, it can open up the way to get back into the state of New Jersey. Very underrated in terms of football talent. Its the only thing New Jersey is better then New York in........

Just cant turn it off sometimes brother.

I am with you though. He looks good but there is a long long way to go before he is even on campus. I think Crow has more potential than people are giving him credit for but time will tell.

As Miami fans, we should all know not to anoint the highly touted QB until he's proven it on the field. I'm glad he's coming and think Golden and Co will be able to help build a class around him, but I'm holding any judgement until he's on the field

All I care about is the competition getting better and the depth chart getting to where it needs to be.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to []_[]Fan2010 again.

I really like Preston Dewey. I keep thinking about Ty Detmer's comments about him and I see what he can be. I was also very impressed with the growth that I saw from Dewey just throughout the spring sessions. The kid looked good in the spring game.

The fact that Dewey and Olsen will have each other to grow and compete with gives me hope for the future of the QB position here.

Well, the jury isn't back on our QB's just yet.

We're sitting a lot fatter right now than we were last year, that's for sure. I don't rule anyone out, even our freshmen, and I don't automatically crown anyone.

Let's be proud of what we have right now, and let them sort it out on the practice and game field.

My problem is that I remember a Freshman winning us our first National Championship - just like it was yesterday.

No one is hopeless, no one is a certainty.

Nothing is impossible.

'Cause this is Miami football.

At least we'll be playing in the MAC so they won't have to be really all that good regardless.
