Richt doesn't expect Burns to be ready for first game

Mark Richt said today that he does not expect freshman running back Robert Burns to be available for game one of the season. Burns came to UM from Gulliver Prep with gifted physical tools, but questions about his injury history. The early enrollee injured his shoulder badly enough during spring practice to require surgery, and he was at practice #1 this morning in a green non-contact jersey.

Miami's depth at running back right now after Mark Walton is sophomore Travis Homer, Trayone Gray (returning from ACL), and potentially Deejay Dallas. Dallas is playing receiver now, but it is possible he sees a role at running back in the future. Right said he was impressed with Dallas today as a wide out.

For Burns, this is not necessarily a surprising move. It is better not to rush him back from this -- we will see if he gets healthy enough to see the field at some point this season.

It wouldn't have mattered, Yearby was gone even if he was the number one back. Besides Rick and the staff cooled on him. The only edge he would have had on Homer is experience. We'll be fine rolling with Walton and Homer as the main ground attack. If, if Burns can get/stay healthy and give 60 to 75 carries this year it'll be icing on the cake.

I didn't really expect him to play regardless. The only way he is going to see carries is in mop up. Barring a couple of injuries I think we are good. Assuming health it'll be 70% Walton. 20% Homer, and choc, deejay, burns splitting ten percent at most. Now if someone gets hurt those numbers obviously go out the window.

5 star talent? 5 stars don't have less than 1,000 yards in total in four years of high school. Pump the brakes on that kind of talk, he's depth at a position that really needs bodies.

Have you seen his HS highlights? there is only one reason you give a scholarship to a kid who took only a handful of snaps during his junior and senior year in high school. It's because he has 5 star talent. Richt and Brown are religious guys, so I wouldn'tbe surprised if they're right now praying to god the kid stays healthy. Because if he does, Burns will see meaningful snaps this year. He's special.
