Recruiting Update 8-4

With Rising Senior Day coming up on August 12th, here are the latest rumors around the Miami recruiting scene.

-With 11 commits already, the class is more than half way done. The coaches are trying to be careful with the numbers and would like to take a smaller class after last year's big class and the way that things are shaping up positively already for 2014. The number right now is most likely 17-18.

-The attention will now be turned to closing the deal with Jaynard Bostwick and Maquedius Bain on the defensive line, who both have Miami leading right now. Bain has been keeping a lot to himself about when he could pull the trigger, but it would not be a surprise to see him commit at the Senior Day. Bostwick has been very open that Miami is his leader. Once both of these guys jump on board, the DL recruiting will be done for the most part, with Tim Williams possible being the cherry on top. He's not an absolute need, but would be a great get and has serious interest.

-There will be at least 1 more OL added to this class, to pair with commit Alex Gall. There is a lot of confidence that Denver Kirkland will be in the class, but another possible option is Hunter Knighton from New Jersey. He was offered at a camp a couple months ago and has legitimate interest. He's kind of under the radar and plays a lot of DT in high school, but Kehoe likes him a lot. Things look good on the Kirkland front, though.

-WR Jordan Cunningham will be someone to keep an eye on. If he doesn't end up at UM, it may not be completely his decision. Everything I've heard is that he loves Miami and the Canes lead, but I don't think the staff has decided whether or not they would take him right now. Receiver isn't a huge need in this class after taking 5 last year and Angelo Jean-Louis coming in January.

-Former Miami commit Levonte Whitfield has recently said that FSU leads for him. According to sources, the Noles may not have a spot for him in their class, though. They have 3 WR commits, including Columbus WR Jesus Wilson, whose game is very similar to Whitfield. This is an interesting development because there is also talk that Whitfield may not have a spot at Miami right now either.

I still expect ajl to wind up at S.

I thought Jean-Louis was headed to defensive back until Mariucci said he was the best (and most polished) WR at Under Armour. We knew he had the explosiveness we need at wideout, but I was surprised to hear how advanced he was.

He says he'll play both ways at Fork Union so we shall see.

Not smart on the part of the coaches. Better to load up now by getting rid of deadweight. What happens if we get hit with bigtime sanctions in 2014 and beyond? Golden was smart to frontload last year ahead of sanctions by taking 33 and getting rid of all those Shammin scrubs and making the team as young as possible. He needs to finish that process this year, especially at OL and S.

Although if taking only 17-18 is actually in preparation for sanctions, then you can't blame Golden.

Not offering Whitfield is just dumb.

From your lips to god's ears. Has he played S in HS? I've never heard anyone talk about him at S.

Yes he can play it and did in HS. I like him a lot there and he is willing to play it

The only thing harder than finding good DT is finding good DTs with grades.
