Miami will be hosting one of the most productive receivers in America, as FIU transfer WR Eric Rivers visits Coral Gables this weekend.

The 5’11, 175-pound Chattanooga, TN native is fifth in the nation in receiving yards (1,172) and fourth in touchdowns (12). He also averages an eye-popping 18.9 yards per catch.

Rivers originally walked on with Memphis out of high school. He redshirted and then played mostly special teams as a freshman, failing to record a catch. He transferred to FIU and quickly earned a scholarship. Rivers had a modest sophomore year (370 yards), and then erupted as a junior.

Rivers had one of the biggest games of the season with a 11-catch, 295 yard, 3 TD explosion against New Mexico State.

As a senior at the McCallie School, he won a state title, playing receiver, running back, cornerback and kick returner.

He was a multisport competitor, putting up 17 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 4.8 APG, and 2.1 SPG on the basketball court.

Almost hate it for the G5 programs where they help to develop a kid, and almost assuredly knows he will leave for the P4
they also get power 5 bounce backs though

This is the best g5 programs should be talent wise.

Power 5 schools are offering less hs kids....they are playing in the portal pushing kids that would typically be power 5 down to g5 also kid in the portal looking for reps are going down to them as well

exactly, it works both ways ... there are five star kids that can't cut it at p4 schools that find big time success is in g5 schools

Think we every see P4 teams to use a G5/FCS schools a development squad? I.e. Miami recruits project players to FIU with the intent of “calling them up”. Have the feeder program run similar systems, possibly even share some facilities/nutrition.

You do that if a hc from your coaching tree gets the job at a g5 and is cool with it.
It could work. **** u kind of seen it with smu at a level and they took off with our guys.

I meant colleges placed guys in jucos and preps like milford and hargrave..if a coach was smart and tight with the hc he could pull it off

That’s life. Every good employee I hire & invest in eventually leaves me for higher paying opportunities. Sucks but I’m happy for them for bettering themselves.

Nature of the beast. At that age, people do it in relationships, jobs, friend groups. Opportunity > Loyalty

And don’t think for a second those coaches wouldn’t do it to those players/schools if they are given the chance.

Knew of Rivers in Chattanooga as a basketball player. He was lethal in the 3on3 circuit.

McCallie school is always loaded in football though.

He’s 2 inches taller than X and plays the same position. He’ll be okay
So, while he plays the same position, he plays a lot different.

A poor comparison, but he's more like if Jacolby George played the slot. Not so much a space finder like X. But will get that separation with his speed and acceleration and then jitterbug his way into green and accelerate upfield. Highlights are filled with taking a little hitch and exploding upfield. He's more athletic than George and more disciplined for sure. Also, can go vertical and has really nice acceleration. Good WR to have a QB just throw it deep and he'll run under it.

I know we are eying up Eric Singleton...but the reality is, whatever the price, I'd pay for both, and I'd think I have two All-ACC caliber WRs on the team that help us replace X and upgrades Jacolby.

Singleton, too, not quite replaces X, but adds, especially in our short to intermediate passing game. Both dudes have ups, too, and can make contested catches.

Those two are the Top 2 WRs in the portal at the moment.

We could use another tallboy and we are requiring our younger WRs to step the **** up (calling you OUT, JoJo Trader). But give Singleton and Rivers and that makes the future QBs choice very easy (Mateer?).

I was hoping we would lock him up. With singleton gone, makes sense for him at GT.

Don't give Georgia and Alabama any more ideas.
Seriously, I think you will inevitably see this feeder program collaboration somewhere.

They have the next best pitch to us so they're definitely a threat to land him but we still have a great shot. Just hope we aren't slow playing him waiting for Singleton who we're an underdog to land.

I dont care. I dont want mid major guys. aside from KJ Osborn they arent that good imo. Sam Brown showed me enough. go for guys who played at the p4 level.

They just won their 5th state title in 6 years in dramatic fashion. Down 21-0, came back to win 27-21 against Baylor, their biggest rival. Also, every other school in Tennessee is trying to take McCallie down for recruiting. They have like 4-5 kids from Canada on their team.
