MNW LB Smith discusses Miami offer

Miami Northwestern LB Michael Smith was a breakout star this past season. His success helped him land offers from the likes of Clemson and West Virginia, but last night he received one that he had been waiting for in particular.

“Coach Scott told me to give Coach Golden a call and h (Golden) basically told me they had been waiting to offer me for a while and they were glad I was patient with it. I was excited because they are a childhood favorite and that’s the hometown school,” said Smith.

Although Smith was patient with Miami, doubt was creeping into his mind that the ‘Canes weren’t very high on him.

“It was a little bit of a surprise they offered because I thought they didn’t really have any interest in me.”

The ‘Canes were already in Smith’s top group before the offer, but this solidifies their spot with him.

“It moves them up, but I wouldn’t really say I have a leader. UM is in top three with Clemson and Louisville with West Virginia right there too.”

When does the versatile pass-rusher plan on committing?

“I may do it before the senior season and maybe even earlier. It’s just something I need to talk over with my family.”

The Miami Northwestern star likes how Miami’s class is comprised of all South Florida kids right now.

“South Florida has the most talent in the nation and we all stay home then Miami could be BCS champions again.”

Smith has been busy in the offseason, as he has attended various camps and combines.

“The offseason been great because it has really helped to expose me to people who hadn’t seen me before.”

Does he have grade concerns?

Either way I am glad we offered him, kid looks like a beast in the making.

I haven't heard of any grades problems.

Just curious since we were slow to offer and Lousiville/WVU is on him early.

I posted this a while back but Louisville and West Virginia are really good at getting on kids down here early. Grades concerns or not

Yeah I get that. I would say >50% of the time there are grade problems when you have these factors though.

WVU and Louisville are oos so they have to be on him early and plus his size wasnt an issue with them at first

Yup, that's what I was hoping to hear when I asked. Thanks.

When i get mad about Quincy its because of a guy like Smith who is a beast at de but knows he's best to be versatile at linebcker too. Smith got informed by the UM staff that he needs to know how to play linebacker and he didnt ***** about it he worked, learned the position and then got the offer before the summer and THAT AND ONLY THAT seperates an "entitled guy like Quincy and a guy like Mike Smith

Well the staff hasn't told Quincy that they don't like him at CB and that he needs to move to safety. They haven't shown any interest at all, so that's the difference between his situation and Smith's.

Glad Smith been offered. He what you call a "football" player. If you don't know a kid (Quincy Wilson) then don't make comments like you know he feels he's entitled or said so. Remember these are still kids with lots of temptations and choices dangled in front of them and they might not share your comittment to The U. With that said I would like to see Quincy in this class.

sound like he will be the next to commit...

love this kids potential...as a pass rusher on the outside out of the 3-4 fronts and over fronts .

I played offensive tackle...these type of kids are the ones i hated blocking...their fast as **** and wiry with not much to actually grab a hold of.
