Miami added grad transfer offensive lineman Venzell Boulware from Tennessee this morning and he spoke with Canesinsight about his decision and gave some background info.

Boulware, an interior lineman, will graduate from Tennessee over the summer and have two years of eligibility since he redshirted during his first season in Knoxville. He played both guard positions and “a little bit” of center during his time as a Volunteer.

“Mark Richt recruited me out of high school to UGA and when the opportunity presented itself again to be coached by him and I evaluated the situation, Miami had a hell of a run this season. There’s a couple spots opening up on the offensive line so there’s an opportunity for me to come in and contribute to the team immediately,” he said.

Boulware says he visited Miami in December and has been in contact with OL coach Stacy Searels since then.

“I met him when I got down there and we’ve been talking and building a good relationship ever since then,” Boulware said. “That was my first time ever going down there and it was very nice.”

The 6-4, 300-pounder says he will be going back-and-forth between Knoxville and back home in Atlanta to prep for his arrival to Coral Gables. He plans on working out with his trainer in Atlanta and staying in shape while finishing up school.

“I’ve got a lot of things in place to be ready when I get down there,” he added.

Don't know anything about it but I love the move. If he can contribute that would really help us not throw all these freshman into the fire too early. Hopefully he can take Darlings spot or at least be in the two deep immediately.

I like that hes working. He may be a plug and play guy.

Man let me tell you, if he comes in ready and locks up the LG, we have an experienced line and the only spot up for grab might be RT between Herb and Hillery. I know a lot on here wanna see Scaife already but anytime you can allow a young guy on either of the lines to develop and not rush to play, that's a major PLUS!

      St Louis
      Boulware
      Gauthier
      Vaughn
      Herb or Hillery

Mark Richt stay dropping hints... He said they're leaving room open for potential grad transfers. Wonder if we'll get some on defense, too

      Took this from another thread.

From a Tennessee fan on another site:

"He's good, possibly really good. We all wanted him to come back for his last season under different coaching but Jones f*cked it up too much with Boulware. Good get Canes."

I don't care what UT fans are saying. They don't know nothing. haven't you ever seen crowd shots at Tennessee games. Scary.

Bring Scaife and Reed in to spell the two Guards. Get their feet wet without having to throw them into the fire as starters.

Groom them to be heavy contributors in 2019.

I like this if it pans out.

This is a great move...stacking solid depth in the trenches.

Glad to see we're still going after Goss even with this news.

Any cane fan’s in the mountains out west that know of Couple third year grizzlies transfers at DT? I’m mean the real grizzlies not some mascot. It seems we again can’t find any human kind. Oh, welcome to the U kid, glad to have you aboard.

He needs to graduate first. If he graduates, he won't get here till after the summer, so it'll be tough for him to start with only a few weeks of practice under his belt.

I'm hopeful. He'd be a big upgrade over a couple of the oversized knick knacks we have collecting dust on the OL.

Good news. We were thin at guard last year when Donaldson went down. This is quality depth.

One of the benefits of having a coach who is a good dude and straight shooter like Richt. Kids remember that. Easy sell if Miami wants someone that Richt gave it to straight when everyone wanted the kid and was promising him the world.
