Tennessee WR commit Tyran Evans made his official visit with Miami this weekend. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds Evans provides size and athleticism on the outside, but looked closer to 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds when seeing him in person. The North Carolina wide receiver has been committed to the Volunteers since early January, but Miami has continued their recruitment of Evans throughout with a real belief that a flip is on the cards. He spoke to me for CanesInSight following his official visit and here’s what he had to say:
Takeaways from his official visit:
“We had a lot of fun. We got to see the whole Miami and we all just had a blast. I got to understand the school, a beautiful campus. Overall, I just understand the school more.”
“I feel pretty good, like I love this school.”
On his recruiting process, specifically his upcoming visit with Tennessee:
“It'll let me know where I want to be, like really want to be.”
“Miami is one of my top, top schools.”
(Evans also mentioned how Kentucky and NC State are pushing for him)
“I'm gonna wait till my coach got this day where we pick the hats, I’m a silent commit.”
On whats made Miami stand out in his recruitment process:
“Just Coach KB and coach Cristobal. Ever since he came to my school he promised me he was gonna recruit me harder and ever since he just did it.”
“They like to have fun, they're not overly strict. Where other schools only want to talk football, Mario likes to have fun. I'm a go out, fun type of guy, so a school doing it is just like wow.”
On how the staff sees his fit in the offense:
“They want me to be a make a play type of guy whether that’s on a deep route or a comeback.”
“They were just saying, like just by my size, everybody's gonna be scared. They’d be scared of me going deep so the short routes would always be there.”
