Despite bye, this is a huge week for Canes football

**The Miami Hurricanes will not play a game in week four, but this is a monumental week for the football program. The Canes have had a successful first three weeks on the field – taking care of business against an FCS school and two non-P5 programs. Miami will make two announcements this week that are both expected to make waves in the national headlines and will keep Miami front and center in the eyes of recruits, even on their bye week.

Tomorrow, the school will unveil the “new” Adidas uniform design, which is heavily influenced by the look worn by the Canes of the 80s and 90s. The unis were leaked on Twitter last night and I can confirm that this is what they will look like. Keep in mind that the sleeves will be tighter for the version worn by players.

Miami is expected to wear these for the remainder of the season and sources told CanesInSight that the uniforms will be fully implemented for the 2017-2018 season as well.

The unveiling event will take place on Monday at 5 pm at the Rathskeller on UM’s campus. It is open to the public.

**The bigger news for Miami’s football program will be Friday afternoon announcement of an indoor practice facility, which has been in the final stages of planning for a couple of months now. This announcement will is being labeled as “by invitation only” and is being held at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. It is scheduled to begin at 5:00PM and school president Julio Frenk will be in attendance along with athletic director Blake James.

Canes coaches have been showing the facility layout plans to recruits since the spring. Sources have told CanesInSight.com that Miami is aiming to have construction completed by the start of the 2018 season. It works out nicely that the 2018 recruiting class of prospects is one of the most talent-laden groups in recent memory.
Real estate developer Jeffrey Soffer and his family will be the lead donor for the project. Donor details here:

**A few team things…

Brad Kaaya’s knee is fine. There is no structural damage and if there was a game this week, he would play with little to no hindrance. Team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lee Kaplan and head athletic trainer Vinny Scavo were taking a close look at Kaaya on the sidelines yesterday as he took a hit while chasing the return on the interception that he threw.

Adrian Colbert, who is coming off a meniscus tear and minor knee procedure, would be ready to play this week if there was a game. He will be important in the next game against Georgia Tech where the cornerbacks will need to get active in the run game. His history as a safety lends to him being effective against the run.

Notable stats
**Miami is converting on 51.5% of their 3rd downs this season, which ranks 17th nationally. The Canes finished 95th in the country in the same category last season (35.47%)

**Miami’s defense has allowed only 217 yards per game, which ranks 3rd nationally.

**The pass defense has allowed 152.3 yards per game, which ranks 14th nationally.

**The run defense has allowed 65 YPG, which ranks 7th nationally.

**The defense has allowed 7.7 points per game, which ranks 2nd nationally.

**The Canes are tied for 5th in sacks with 13. They had 26 sacks all of last season.

**Mark Walton has the 7th-most rushing yards in the country with 401.

This stat here from Pro Football Focus gives you another look at Ahmmon Richards’ 4-catch, 142-yard freshman receiving record at Miami.

Thanks Pete! Great stuff as always. I would have to believe that the unveiling of the uniforms along with the announcement of the IPF happening in the same week, which happens to be our bye week, is a very strategic approach by Richt and/or the administration. Recruits, voters, and the media will still have The U on their minds, even when we are not playing a game. Man does it feel great rto have a head coach that plays chess instead of checkers.

Thanks for bringing the fire as always, Pete! You been killing it, man. Respect!

It's also a huge week because:

GA vs Old Miss: We will jump the loser of that game in the rankings(looks like we alrdy jumped Miss)

Florida vs Tenn: We will jump the loser of that game in the rankings

Arkansas vs TA&M: We will jump the loser of that game in the rankings

We should move up at least 3 spots just by defeating the BYE

Anything on Courtel Jenkins?

He'll be good to go. I saw him pre game yesterday getting some work in. Came out and got on the bike early then came back and looked to be moving well jogging, coming out of a 3 point stance, and running about 10 yard "sprints"

Love your enthusiasm, but let's not put the cart before the horse. BYE is a tough opponent, and if you don't take it seriously you can get into trouble. Look what happened to Iowa.

Awesome news, especially getting all the players back and the IPF announcement.

I'd like to hear the story of the impetus behind the uni change. Was it all Rick? Was it Rick having the cache to make the request/demand to Adidas whereas Blake was more passive with our "partner"? Was it mutual? Did Adidas see a need to change them too based on overall public reception or sales?

It's all minor stuff but would be a somewhat interesting look behind the curtain. Now let's get to work on burning the design for our hoops shorts.

The way I am going to imagine it going down is Richt saw the uniforms and immediately complained to the athletic department that we should have more traditional uniforms.
They got a hold of an Adidas Rep and Richt suggested to him to bring back a traditional design and he listened.

Peter, have they invited you to these events?
