Davis-Hamilton discusses UM, recruiting

Stefan Adams
2020 3-star ATH Jecoryan Davis-Hamilton has offers from Ohio State, Auburn, Syracuse, and Ole Miss to name a few, but he remembers the day when he first found out that he would have the chance to play D-I football. The Apopka star had just finished his freshman year of high school when he was given a verbal scholarship by the Miami Hurricanes, nearly two years ago at this point.

“It was very surprising, they were actually my first offer,” Davis-Hamilton said of Miami. “I found out because one of my teammates at Apopka was being recruited by Miami and he told me to call their coach. So I called coach, we ended up talking, and he offered me.”

Since then, Davis-Hamilton has kept in touch with the Canes. He attended Paradise Camp this past July and was most recently on campus this spring for a junior day event.

“Yeah, I was down there at junior day in February,” Davis-Hamilton said. “It was nice, we saw the indoor, it was pretty cool.”

The 6’1” 185 pound prospect is being recruited on both sides of the ball by various programs. While UM originally saw Davis-Hamilton as a WR, they are leaving open the possibility of him playing safety or even striker as well.

“They were recruiting me as a wide receiver, but I was mainly talking to coach (Jon) Patke a lot on the last visit, so I don’t really know my position yet,” Davis-Hamilton said. “I’m just an athlete for now.”

Miami is known for having one of the top business schools in the country, and that is an aspect of UM that attracts Davis-Hamilton to the program.

“The marketing part of the school, like the business school, I like a lot, and where it’s located – it’s Miami, one of the greatest cities in America,” Davis-Hamilton said. “Also, the history throughout their program is great.”

In addition to UM, Davis-Hamilton has taken visits to UCF and Georgia Tech this spring.

“I’ve just been enjoying the process,” Davis-Hamilton said. “I’ve been hearing from Ohio State, Virginia, Auburn, Georgia Tech, schools like that.”

The next step in the recruiting process for Davis-Hamilton is to narrow down a top group, which he envisions doing this summer. Once the right collection of schools become clear, Davis-Hamilton will be ready to make a decision.

“I was originally going to announce in February, but now I’m thinking December,” Davis-Hamilton said. “I may even do it before then, but I don’t have a set top group yet. Once I get that, then I’ll know for sure when I want to decide. I’m gonna narrow it down during the summer.”

What is he going to be looking for when he does make a decision?

“I want to feel at home where I’m at. I gotta love the coaches, I gotta love the atmosphere. I’m the one that has to be there for four years.”

Is he coming for Paradise again this summer? That's when I hope to see commitable offers dropping for most of the remaining open spots.

This kid is a serious talent (Athlete). I recall Sean Taylor was a very good RB in high School. Just saying....

Are you freaking serious? Post like this should get a person banned. Do us all a favor and keep Sean’s name out your mouth.

Let's relax with throwing ST's name in this thread (or any thread). But this guy may be a major sleeper. Flying somewhat under the radar due to tearing his ACL during junior season. Shows some major functional athleticism. Could be a helluva a safety prospect

I get that people get excited about a prospect and want to compare him to UM players, and sometimes can get overzealous and compare recruits to UM's All-time greats. But there is something about comparing a HS recruit (any recruit) to ST that feels sacrilegious.

A kid can be an absolute stud and still be no ST.

The more I watch this kid, the more impressed I am with him. I get some Rayshawn Jenkins vibes

You're a complete dumpster ... if you knew anything about ST you would have known much more about his athletic prowess.

No, you're the idiot underestimating his athletic prowess. Please don't compare ST to some high school guy just because he's an athlete and plays running back. Jesus Christ.
