Miami defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman was named a finalist for the Broyles Award, presented annually to the nation’s top assistant coach, the organization announced Tuesday.

This season, the Broyles Award is entirely fan-voted, and Coach Hetherman emerged as the winner of the week-long fan vote to secure the finalist honor.

Under Hetherman’s leadership, Miami has produced one of the nation’s strongest defensive profiles. At the end of the regular season, the Hurricanes ranked sixth nationally and first in the ACC in opponents’ points per game (13.8) and seventh nationally and first in the ACC in rushing defense (86.8 yards per game).

Miami also stands 11th nationally and first in the ACC in total defense, allowing 277.8 yards per game, and 14th nationally and first in the ACC in sacks per game (2.83).

The Hurricanes rank eighth nationally in opponent yards per play (4.4) and seventh in opponent yards per rush (2.9). Miami is 11th nationally in opponent third-down conversion rate (31.08%) and has held opponents to 6.1 yards per pass attempt, the 13th-best mark in the FBS.

Fan voting for the Broyles Award finalists is now open. The fan vote runs now through Jan. 26 at 12 a.m. ET, and supporters can vote once every 24 hours at BroylesAward.com/vote. Each vote also counts as an entry to win two VIP passes to the Broyles Award Ceremony.

The Final 5 will be honored at the 30th Broyles Award event, set for Feb. 12-13, 2026 at Oaklawn in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Just submitted my vote. Let’s all support our guy. Easily the best DC in the country and a huge reason for our success. I would love to keep on the momentum with all of this positive press regarding our program. Go Canes!!

And F….ATM. Once we’ve taken care of business on the 20th…revenge season begins. F Taint, F UGA, F Everybody!

Coach Hetherman has done an outstanding job as DC. This defense has truly been a joy to watch. Being a huge fan of the defensive side of the ball it has been incredibly gratifying to watch a defense that is so well coached. Even when we were missing multiple starters the defense didn't miss a beat and that's a direct reflection on the DC. Coach Hetherman has been without a doubt the best coordinator hire Mario has made in his time here. He has some very serious competition for the award going up against the likes of Shiel Wood(Texas Tech DC), Matt Patricia(Ohio State DC), Bryant Haines(Indiana DC) and believe it or not Mike Bobo(Georgia OC).

Fans are allowed to vote once a day so let's stuff that ballot box by voting everyday and bring Coach Hetherman some well deserved hardware! Go Canes!

Yeah, back up the Brinks truck and you just keep bringing boxes of money into his living room until there's no more floor space. We need him at least one more year to further cement this D and the team overall.

I'm still skeptical about Bobo - if you watched the UGA-Bama game they threw nothing but screen passes, and yet Bama still couldn't stop it. But Patricia is the real surprise - I thought the hire was dumb considering how Patricia flamed out in the NFL, but I was wrong - Patricia has been a far better DC than Jim Knowles ever was.

I'm shocked at how good our defense has been considering the fact our Linebackers are really mid with all due respect. Hetherman has worth every dollar.

And, I would make him the highest paid DC in the land. He's earned it and he's worth it.

And....if we believe that JT is DC material, then he should be elevated and more a part of the Heatherman system, so when Heatherman is poached for a HC job next offseason, he could potentially step in. That is if JT wants that and if Mario believes he can handle it.

I don't think that 2 or 3 more years is so far fetched. I think coach Hetherman may want to establish and build a name for himself here at Miami instead of just jumping at the first thing to come around. He knows that Mario is going to provide him with some great talent for him to work with.

Love this psychopath and hate that he deserves to win it, only because it would put his name in the same company as Gattis and Folden.
