Colbert assesses first game as Hurricane

Texas defensive back transfer Adrian Colbert made his Miami Hurricanes debut last Saturday night against FAMU. He summed up his first action as a Cane.

“It was crazy to be out there with my boys that I’ve been grinding all summer with,” he said.

Not only did his team come away victorious, but he played a role in that as he recorded his fist interception in the green and orange. It was also his first game as a cornerback, as he made the switch from safety.

“We were in a cover 3 so I was just bailing man and the quarterback just threw it up to my guy – I guess he thought he was open. I came down with it and almost fell. I was real tired,” Colbert said. “I was able to highpoint it and come down with it.”

With Miami handling the Rattlers all night long, how much of the defensive playbook did we see on Saturday night? Very little, according to Colbert.

“Not much. Not much at all,” he said. “Like 10%,” Colbert added.

“We just gotta have people stepping up. Next man. We have to go and work hard and play as good as the guy before you,” Colbert said.

“We’ve just got to take care of our bodies after practice and before practice getting ice and stretching.”

Colbert on the possibility of being ranked: “Rankings don’t matter at all. We’ve got to go out and play every team like it’s Florida State at the end of the season is when it matters.”

Thought he looked a little tired returning that INT. Secondary conditioning gonna be tested all year long. That being said, with the offense getting a short field and scoring quick all day the defense was on the field a lot.

Hopefully we can run the ball this year to help the D out.

When we get into the meat of the schedule you can expect Richt to work more clock control to protect the defense.

As we saw last night with Bimbo.

Having an above average play caller will pay huge dividends.

Francois throws 5 picks if James Coley were calling plays.

i can't stress enough how important it is to have Richt staring down a DC from the sideline on Saturdays.

He strikes fear in their hearts.

Agreed. We hung 70 on FAMU with ease - it could've got close to 100....

With Richt running the offense (basically) and Kuligowski running the DL, I feel a lot more confident going into games than I have in quite awhile....

I'm not saying he is Sean Taylor but he ran like Sean ran on that INT. He's a solid looking DB

He definitely has some size and solid speed - I wish he had more than 1 year here, but we'll be bringing in solid DBs for the foreseeable future now that we have real coaches....
