Miami will offer scholarships to approximately 170-200 prospects every year. College football recruiting is not a science. Each school has a BIG Board and position boards, which list prospects by their priorities. Our “CaneHunt” boards are our attempt to “guess” the Hurricanes’ recruiting priorities. These boards will change throughout the recruiting cycle. Check back often during the year to check on the boards and get the latest updates on prospects. I hope you enjoy CaneHunt ’14.

Miami’s Need: 1-2

1. Name: Anthony Moten

Hometown/School: St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
HT: 6-4 / WT: 279 / 40:
Season Stats:
Composite Rating: 91 / Rank: #16 SDE
Scouting Report (s):
Schools of Interest: (14) Miami, So. Car., Ark, FSU, OSU, UF
Leader(s): Miami, So. Car., UF
Status: Offered
Chance: Too early

UPDATES:

2/19/13: Anthony Moten is a fast rising, four star SDE prospect out of powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas in Ft. Lauderdale. He’s strong and athletic. He’s currently rated a 91 and ranked as the #16 SDE in the nation by 247sports. Many feel he will raise his rating and rank during his senior year.

Early in the recruiting process, Miami held a strong lead, with Moten visiting the campus five times unofficially. He enjoyed the recent Junior Day at the “U”. We were his clear stated leader. However, it has been reported recently he said he was most impressed with South Carolina. That was until he suddenly stated that he really wanted a Florida offer. He called the Gators his “dream school.” Hold on, last week he was reported to have said West Virginia was one (offer) he was looking for.

Does this sound familiar? 17-18 year old boys say the “darnest things!” It looks like we are in for another wild “diva ride.”

2. Name: Gerald Willis

Hometown/School: Edna Karr (New Orleans, LA)
HT: 6-2.25 / WT: 246 / 40: 5.16
Season Stats: 2011 & 2012 = 148 Tackles | 34 TFL | 21 Sacks | I INT | 1 IFTD
Composite Rating: 98 / Rank: #5 SDE
Scouting Report (s): NA
Schools of Interest: (11) UF, LSU, TAM, ALA, USC
Leader(s): UF, LSU, TAM
Status: Offered
Chance: Too early

UPDATES:

2/12/13: TOS site recently posted a review of Gerald Willis. At 6-3, 260 lbs, Willis is a very agile end that if he gains weight could slide to the inside to be a very mobile DT. He’s big and strong, but will be a tough pull from LA. However, he may be influenced by the Standish Dobard’s commitment to Miami.

3. Name: Da'Shawn Hand

Hometown/School: Woodbridge (Woodbridge, VA)
HT: 6-5 / WT: 247 / 40: 4.60
Season Stats: 78 tackles | 16 sacks
Composite Rating: 100 / Rank: #1 SDE
Scouting Report (s): NA
Schools of Interest: (60)
Leader(s): Bama, UF, MI, SoCar, VT
Status: Offered
Chance: Too early

UPDATES:

2/19/13: Da’Shawn Hand is the hands down top overall prospect in the 2014 class. An elite SDE, DaShawn has more than 60 offers with a current top five of Bama, UF, Michigan, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. He will be a tough pull for the Canes. However, Miami has made significant recruiting inroads in the Washington D.C. area. Anything is possible, but we should consider Hand a long shot at this time.

4. Jalyn Holmes

Hometown/School: Lake Taylor (Norfolk, VA)
HT: 6-5 / WT: 225 / 40:
Season Stats: 60 TKL | 13 TFL | 5 SACKS
Composite Rating: 96 / Rank: #5 SDE
Scouting Report (s): NA
Schools of Interest: (19) UVA, VT, Clem, UF, MD, USC, ALA, FSU
Leader(s): UVA & VT
Status: Offered
Chance: Too early

UPDATES:

2/19/13: At 6-foot-7, 230-pounds, Jayln Homes is the #5 SDDE in the nation, according to 247sports. Jalyn is currently a heavy lean to Virginia Tech, with UVA in the mix. He’s expected to commit early, so he’s going to be hard for the Canes to pull him out of Virginia. Clemson is said to be a dark horse. It’s a long way to NSD.

How is Chad Thomas not at the very least the number three target on this board? We can forget about Hand and Holmes and Willis would be a tough pull but id love to get him and think we have a shot.

think Chad is a weakside defensive end along with Keyon Brown.

How about Reilly Gibbons brought in as an ATH and given a shot at SDE?

6-4ish 260ish with 4.6 40 speed?
