Miami will offer scholarships to approximately 170-200 prospects every year. They have already offered 82 scholarships for the 2014 Class. CaneHunt will list, by position, all those prospects that have been “offered” by Miami. Our “CaneHunt” boards are our attempt to “guess” the Hurricanes’ recruiting priorities. To keep the thread from becoming overwhelming, we will save only one month of updates on each prospect.

These boards will change throughout the recruiting cycle. CHECK BACK OFTEN during the year and get the latest updates on prospects. I hope you enjoy CaneHunt ’14.

Miami’s Need: 2-3 running backs

1. Name: Sony Michel

Hometown/School: American Heritage (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)
HT: 5’-11” / WT: 190 / 40: 4.50
Season Stats: 127 carries for 1258 yards and 18 touchdowns, 18 receptions for 232 yards.
247sports Composite Rating: 99 | Rank: #2 RB
Scouting Report(s): NA
Schools of Interest: (13) UGA, Miami, ALA, UF, FSU ND
Leader(s): UGA, Miami, FSU, ND, UF
Status: Offered
Chance: Too early

UPDATES:

2/18/13: Sony Michel, a five star RB prospect this year, has been on the CFB radar since the 8th grade. He may be the top local CFB prospect. Sony has been a major target for the Canes for quite some time. Michel knows UM, having unofficially visited a numerous occasions.

Despite a sophomore year lost to a torn ACL, Sony bounced back last year for 1,258 yards on 127 carries and 18 touchdowns. He’s big and fast, a perfect compliment to Duke.

Last week, Sony named his Top 5 schools as Miami, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, and Notre Dame. Sony plans to decide by this summer. Michel is NOT a lock to Miami. It will be another hard fight.

2. Name: Dalvin Cook

Season STATS: 132 carries for 1451 yards and 22 touchdowns, 10 catches for 269 yards and 2 touchdowns, a 78 yard interception return touchdown, an 88 yard fumble return touchdown, 15 tackles, 2 interceptions.
247sports Composite Rating: 97 | Rank: #6 RB
Scouting Report(s): na
Schools of Interest: (9) Clemson, ALA, UF, FSU, LSU, Miami, USC, Ill, Louisville
Leader(s): Clemson
Status: Verbal to Clemson
Chance: Too Early

UPDATES:

2/18/13: Dalvin Cook is another elite RB from South Florida. He’s incredibly athletic and can play any skill position on the field. However, it’s his talent as a running back that has college coaches drooling.

Despite giving Clemson his early verbal commitment, UM will fight hard to keep Dalvin close to home. His blinding speed racked up 1,452 yards on 132 carries and 22 touchdowns.

Miami may have an advantage no other school can have. Dalvin’s bother, DeAndre Burnett, is currently a Miami basketball signee. Look for the Canes to go hard after both Cook and Michel for this year’s class.

They are too talented to redshirt and need to see the field early.

Was surprised to see that Sony has a better 40 time than Cook. Not a big deal..its only .05 difference. Cook just seemed to look faster to me in their respective highlight films.

Actually, Sony was running in the high 10s, including a 10.6, in the 100m as a FROSH. lol. He ran a 10.8 as an 8th grader! So, yea, injury aside, Michel is likely faster than Cook, whose 100m times were in the low 11s as a sophomore.

Sony may be faster overall, but Cook has a far better burst of acceleration.

I will not except not getting Sony.

Cook going to Clemson shouldn't happen either.

Give me any 2 out of Sony, Cook, and Yearby.

If we win 9 or 10 games, make the ACCCG and go to a good bowl we will land Sony and Cook IMO. We might anyway, but a good season under Golden's belt would be tremendous.
