3-star DB Nunn updates recruiting process

3-star DB Nunn updates recruiting process

Stefan Adams
Miami Palmetto 3-star DB Cornelius Nunn is a Syracuse commit, but ended up showing up to Paradise Camp on campus in Coral Gables two weekends back. Nunn was actually one of the few top 2019 targets to actually compete at the event, as many that were there sat out and Nunn showed out at the event as one of the top DB’s in attendance. He enjoyed the time on campus to continue to build his relationships around the program at Miami and to also improve his game.

“It was pretty good, it was better than all the other camps I had went to,” Nunn said on Paradise. “You know, it’s Miami, speed and all that. Stuff that I like.”

Nunn spent most of his time at camp working with UM safeties coach Ephraim Banda, but also got some time at corner as well. The Palmetto star elaborated on what it’s like being taught by a guy like Banda.

“Enthusiasm! All the fire he brings. He’s a pretty good coach, he coaches the best of the best like Jaquan Johnson and those guys,” Nunn said. “Learned a lot from him, how to play corner, things I’ve never done before.”

For Nunn, the appeal of the UM program is more than just the tradition and history. Seeing his older peers come through the Miami program and creating the blueprint for the path to success has inspired Nunn.

“I’m close with Jaquan Johnson and Sheldrick Redwine, I grew up watching those guys play,” Nunn said. “I’ve been watching them since Richmond Giants. I played for the Richmond Giants too. I’m close with DJ Ivey & Gilbert Frierson too, playing against those guys in high school and growing up with them.”

In the past, contact with UM was few and far between despite his offer, but just before Paradise and in the time since, Nunn reports that Miami has been pushing for him to flip from Syracuse.

“I would say they are coming pretty strong,” Nunn said on Miami. “They’re looking at me kind of like as a rover, come down in the box to move around the field, go from slot to slot. They mentioned the striker position too, some special teams too with my speed.”

Does Nunn have a preference on where exactly he plays?

“It don’t matter, wherever you put me I’m going to make plays,” Nunn said. “I’m a playmaker”

Despite Miami coming after him hard lately, Nunn maintains that he is still committed to Syracuse.

“You know, it’s pretty strong,” Nunn said on his ‘Cuse commitment. “Me and coach Munroe get along, we got a pretty good bond. I like it up there, it’s pretty fun.”

The 6’0” 175 pounder will use this upcoming college season to help him see some more campuses and make sure that Syracuse is really the place for him.

“I will be taking some visits during the season,” Nunn said. “Probably catch the Alabama vs Auburn game, might go back to Syracuse and visit there and see how it is. I will definitely be taking an official to Miami, oh yes, no doubt. Probably for the FSU game.”

As a rising senior, Nunn knows this is his last chance to win a state title with all the teammates he grew up playing with. In 2018, going out on top is the goal, but that’s not to say Nunn doesn’t have personal goals as well.

“My expectations are game by game, one game at a time. Get better by one game at a time, try to go to States and win a State Championship,” Nunn said. “I want 6 interceptions and 80 tackles, last year I had 3 interceptions and 60 tackles. I’m trying to go big this year.”

There’s a few other prospects on the roster at Miami Palmetto that Nunn feels are underrated and deserving of college attention.

“I would have to say Eddie Williams,” Nunn said. “The kid is a beast, like he can go from safety to linebacker to anything. He’s always around the ball, always flying to the ball. A guy like Brashard Smith too at running back, he’s gonna be a sophomore this year. I know he’s young but he’s got talent.”

I feel like I've read about a bunch of underclassmen DB prospects at Palmetto. I want Nunn in this class because I think he's a legit player. Would be gravy if it helps us out with some upcoming prospects, as well.

Can someone with more knowledge chime in on this?

Think Rumph can handle this recruiting war with Syracuse?

You think Syracuse is the only competition for this kid?

Plus I'm sure if he flips you'll either

A. Give someone else the credit
B. Say our only comp was Syracuse and Rumph barley beat them
C. the kid wanted to be a Cane and it wasn't so much Rumph or Banda

Kid is flip bait. I want Nunn. Common theme of going after under the radar type of kids who blow up as the season progress. Nunn is a prime candidate. 6’0, long arms, athletic, that can play multiple positions on the back end. Kid wants 80 tackles....as a DB. Bring him here, now.

But going back to him being flip bait; my guy said he wants to see if Syracuse is really the place for him, but then says, he might get back up there to visit them. Doesn’t sound like he’s that solid, to me.

Miami needs to do its due diligence w Battle, Nunn, and of course Stevenson. All 3 needs to be in this class to go along w Smith!

Like him better than Brownlee n Good. Been sayin it for months now, he should be offered. He looks explosive, on tape. Want to see him play in person this season. Beware of the so flo 3 star.

I'm from Syracuse and the place is a dump. For 9 months out of the year its freezing with snow and rain. Let him go visit Syracuse during winter and trust me he'll never go back.

That place sucks.

I was up there for work a few years ago and eating dinner at a bar eavesdropping on these 2 guys talking Cuse football. They were saying how there’s too much “local” talent for them not to be a top ranked team. The other guy then said that they are 1 good coach away from competing with Alabama. I almost spit out my steak I was laughing so hard.

Kid is gonna fugg around and get left at the alter trying to play it cool. He knows **** well he plans on signing with Miami. He's trying to play hard to get and it might bite him in the ***.

The kid needs to wake up and realize he's only hurting himself by not jumping on board now. You don't get a higher ranking via recruiting services by being a Cuse commit. I just looked at their schedule. They'll be lucky to qualify for a bowl game.

Sadly, A and C happens for any DB recruit we get. You're 100% right though.

I like Nunn a lot, hope his mom will let him make the switch.

He should visit Syracuse around December! It will put a lot of things in perspective, lol.

And you’re good to go !! 👍

Eddie Williams can ball, he was 5'10 before this summer, now listed at 6'1 195, he balled at a Mark Richt camp last summer, like Nunn stated can play linebacker, Safety and corner, even last summer he was viewed as one of the more physical tacklers in Dade county, probably won't see much corner with guy's like Corey Collier Jr and Jason Marshall but sounds like a perfect Striker to me, think his stock rises after a strong season from he and that Palmetto secondary.
