As we know, Jarren Williams (JW) was named QB1 to start the 2019 season. Here are a list of players I expect to reap the benefits:
1. Jeff Thomas - JW has all the throws. Those deep posts, corner routes and deep digs? If given enough time (ha, we'll see), at least there's a QB now who can make all of these throws with accuracy and relative consistency. Thomas gets pretty obvious separation out of his breaks. He needs an accurate QB.
2. Will Mallory - I have him over Brevin Jordan on this list because Jordan was going to get his looks regardless. Mallory would have gotten some also, as I've said I think we're going to see a ton of 12 personnel. But, JW appears to be a rhythm passer. A guy like Mallory is going to feast on crossing routes.
3. Brevin Jordan - JW is tall and has the ability to see the middle of the field easier than a QB like Tate. While I'd have expected Jordan to get looks regardless, depending on the playbook, it might have been a more limited route tree - out breaking routes and seams. I really expect JW to carve up the middle of the field.
4. Brian Hightower - I think he's being slept on. He can provide us something that the other WRs cannot. A true big body on the outside who can get in and out of his breaks and, hopefully, contribute to conversions on slants, quick ins and other routes where he can use his frame.
5. Shaq Quarterman & Mike Pinckney - As leaders of our defense and our team, I'm sure they want to leave with a bang in their senior year. But, that aside, they should be happy because I believe JW is going to be groomed and used very similarly to Brandon Allen in Arkansas. By that, I mean I think we'll hit the intermediate route game more often and our 3 and outs should be significantly reduced from last year (can they not be?). JW's accuracy and consistent mechanics contribute to keeping the defense off the field a bit more often.
