Three Alabama football players, including one projected starter, have been suspended for violating team rules, coach Nick Saban announced Friday after the team's first practice of preseason camp.

Senior Brandon Ivory started all 12 games last season at defensive tackle. Junior Jarran Reed was expected to compete for playing time on the defensive line, and sophomore Tim Williams, who appeared in seven games last season, was expected to compete for playing time at outside linebacker.

Saban said the three players could rejoin the team at some point, according to AL.com:

"We're certainly focused on those guys that we have here to develop them to be the best players that they can be, because they've demonstrated they're willing to do the things they need to do and football is important enough to them to do the things they need to do to have a chance to be successful," Saban said.

The suspensions come after multiple Alabama football players had run-ins with the law this offseason.

Sophomore running back Altee Tenpenny was charged with marijuana possession, junior running back Kenyan Drake was charged with obstructing government operations and Reed and junior linebacker Dillon Lee were both charged with driving under the influence.

These guys will be playing the first minute of game 1. Very few teams would suspend their qb who may start for a failed weed test.

Must have run out of money to pay local cops because of overspending on players and handlers.

Yessir...very few teams suspend their starting anyone, for herb. Suspensions generally occur when it's publicly used or possessed. You're not going to land many elite players when you make a habit of embarrassing them with suspensions. The vast majority of football and basketball players have incorporated marijuana into the recuperation and recovery process.

The staff that gives 90 percocet a month and pumps 60mg of Toradol into these kids every week should be publicly humiliated..or worse.
